“Savor American favorites for breakfast, lunch and dinner—prepared with hints of the South Seas.” (Excerpt Walt Disney World website)
After reading rave reviews of the meals served at Kona Cafe’ at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, I decided to book an Advance Dining Reservation during their breakfast service.
Getting to Kona Cafe
We were staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and were using Disney transportation to get us to and from the resort; therefore, I allowed an hour to get there and it was more than enough time.. Our bus arrived at the Magic Kingdom bus stop and we made the walk over to the resort monorail. Had we wanted to, we could have chosen to take boat transportation to the Polynesian Village Resort. The resort monorail stopped at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the Ticket & Transportation Center and then at our stop, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The next stop on the resort monorail line would have been at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
We had been to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort several times for dinner at ‘Ohana and Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show but that was before the “new” lobby had debuted at the resort. I have to say that it was beautiful! The colors were gorgeous and it felt more airy and festive.
Kona Cafe Menu
We checked into Kona Cafe, were given a buzzer and it went off about five minutes after we had checked in. We were seated in a booth table near the wall of the restaurant and our server was there waiting on us. He took our morning drinks orders and gave us menus.
Our server brought a carafe of coffee, our juice, milk and condiments.
The Big Kahuna
The Tonga Toast had come highly recommended and I had fully intended to order it but another entree caught my eye. The Big Kahuna: French Toast, Pancakes topped with Pineapple Sauce and Macadamia Nut Butter, Eggs, Home-fried Potatoes, Ham, Bacon, and Sausage. Even though I knew that I’d probably never be able to finish it myself, the pancakes with pineapple sauce and macadamia nut butter sealed the deal. I posted a picture of The Big Kahuna on the Magical DIStractions Facebook page as my daily “Where in Walt Disney World Can I Find?” post.
French Toast and Sides
Hunter, our son, isn’t a fan of any type of sauces but potatoes and french bread are two of his favorites so he ordered: French Toast with your choice of Ham, Bacon, or Sausage. He and I made a deal that I’d give him my share of potatoes from my plate in exchange for the slice of pineapple on his. He ended up devouring the french toast and eating another slice from my plate as well. Guess that means that the french toast was a big hit for him.
Two Eggs Any Style
John ordered the Two Eggs any style: with Home-fried Potatoes and your choice of Ham, Bacon, or Sausage. You’ll notice that there is a biscuit on his plate but it doesn’t normally come with the platter. He had to order that extra and ended up asking for another later in the service.
Our Thoughts
I’ll preface the final review to say that we usually skip breakfast while on vacation and even at home. We tend to eat breakfast type foods during dinner time at our house as many Southern families do. We weren’t blown away like some of the other reviewers but that certainly doesn’t mean that we didn’t enjoy our meals. We did. The Big Kahuna was big enough to share (and I did), the French Toast received two thumbs up and the eggs-over-easy were cooked just as my husband requested. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest, I’d rate Kona Cafe as a solid 8.

I love Kona Café! What did you think of the Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes? They are my favorite thing to eat in the World. And in the world. Mmmmmmmmm!!!
My son and husband love the Tonga Toast, but it is too sweet for me. Every year I say I am going to make the Tonga Toast for my son’s birthday. But I don’t! 🙁 Maybe this year…

Dee, I really enjoyed them. Of course, anything that says macadamia nut draws me to it like a moth to a flame.
