My husband and I decided to spend the last night of our anniversary/birthday trip somewhere extra special. I made a reservation at California Grill for 9:30pm. Normally we wouldn’t eat that late but I knew I wanted to be there to see Wishes from the Observation deck. California Grill is located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. We got there about 8:45, got a drink, and went to the observation deck. The view is amazing!!
DIStracted Tip: This restaurant books up very fast, so it is suggested that you make your Advanced Dining Reservation 180 days before your trip!
There are 2 decks, one to the right of the restaurant and one to the left. This is the view from the very end of the right deck. At 9pm when Wishes starts in the Magic Kingdom, the lights dim and the music is played both inside the restaurant and on the deck. It was amazing to see the fireworks from this spot.
Once the fireworks were over and we were seated, we were surprised to find Mickey confetti on our table!
Our server, Wendi, came and gave us a run down of the menu. Wendi has been at the California Grill for 17 years! (If you are going I would highly suggest asking for her to serve you).
We started our meal with the breadbasket and some beers.
Focaccia and Sourdough are both in the basket. I liked them both but the sourdough was my favorite!
My husband and I decided on the Goat cheese ravioli for our app. One word can describe this dish….AMAZING! It was the best thing I had eaten all week (and we ate a lot of great food!)
Distracted Tip: Want to try this at home? Check out my Distracted Foodies post featuring the recipe for this.
This delicious dish features a creamy goat cheese stuffed in a light pasta shell swimming in a refreshing tomato broth and topped with some sun dried tomatoes and parmesan cheese.
Next up, Sushi!
We got the Spicy Kazan Roll. It has Crab, Shrimp, Scallop, Tuna, and Fireball Sauce. It was very tasty and VERY spicy! My husband could drink hot sauce and even he was breaking out into a sweat! Ha!
The Dragon Roll with Spicy and Tataki Tuna, Shrimp Tempura, Avocado, Dragon Sauce, and Hijiki Shirataki Salad. This roll was delicious!
For dessert we (I say we but it was really me.) ordered the Chocolate Pudding Cake. It was Chocolate cake with nutella filling (I had to have it because I LOVE nutella), Meringue Kisses, and Chantilly Cream. This dessert was delicious but really rich. I highly recommend sharing this dessert or even enjoying it with a nice glass of Port.
We were surprised to also receive the Crème Brulee in honor of our anniversary. It’s one of my favorite desserts and it didn’t disappoint.
*Distracted Tip: California Grill is part of the Disney Dining Plan and is considered a Signature Restaurant. It is 2 credits per person if you are using the Dining Plan.

It was a bit spicy for me but the flavor was still amazing!
