Summer is coming to a close, and our children are heading back to school. Summer vacations are behind us, and we are left with only dreams of future visits with Mickey Mouse. What shall a family do until those glorious trips arrive? Host a Disney Movie Night! You can make it as elaborate or as simple as you like. You can invite friends to join you, or you can enjoy it just as a family. You can choose a newer Disney movie, or you can have a blast from the past!
This movie night was great fun! We had not seen this movie for quite some time. We had friends over for this one, and we had a blast with the menu. We served all miniature food and drinks! I was a little stumped as to what to do for decorations. But, in the end, I used all things we had on hand ~ I purchased NOTHING for the decor on this movie night! As I said, you can make it elaborate, or you can keep it simple. For Honey I Shrunk the Kids, we kept it simple … and creative.
As you can see, we used lots of miniature toys (animals, cars. characters, etc). We also attempted to make one of the crazy inventor hats that Wayne Szalinski wore at the beginning of the movie. My son made the hat, and was very proud of it. We added a bit of streamers and some hanging “twirls” we had on hand. When the food was added to the table, it made the room very festive for our movie night.
For this night we feasted on tiny foods like tacos, pizzas, egg rolls, mac and cheese, and small sodas and water bottles. We had a great time making miniature versions of Boston Cream Pie, Key Lime Pie, and Cupcakes. The food was cute, fun, and quite tasty!
Our activity was amazing. This is where I spent a bit of money. I ordered a Shrinky Dinks kit from online. The kids had so much fun with them! If you have never tried Shrinky Dinks, let me explain the concept. You get this box of moving parts that are plastic. There are special markers provided to color the parts. After coloring them, you put them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. You then place them in the oven for a very short time at a high temperature. When they come out … the parts are tiny! Assemble them, and you have fun little Shrinky Dink characters. It was pretty cool!
This was another successful movie night in our home. Have you hosted your own movie night yet? I would love to hear about it in the comment section below.
