We all knew it was coming… Fastpass+ will be hitting Disneyland Resort sooner than later! But wait, it will not be the same system that they use in Walt Disney World Resort.
Guests who visit Disneyland Resort are more go with the flow, fly by the seat of their pants type of Guests. Most Guests do not go in with a plan, nor do they need to. With the parks being so close together, it is not unusual for Disneyland Guests to hop from one park to the other multiple times a day depending on crowds, rides that may be down, ect. It is hard to plan for those type of changes, so there isn’t a daily plan… I’m sure many of our Walt Disney World readers are freaking out about “NO PLANS!”. That is unheard of for them, but trust me it’s the norm for Disneyland Resort Guests. Needless to say, Disney Parks have taken the differences into consideration when coming up with the new Fastpass+ system for Disneyland Resort.
Disneyland Guests will only be able to book ONE (1) Fastpass at a time, unlike Walt Disney World’s three (3). Also, the reservations will only be able to be made the DAY OF instead of up to 60 days in advance like Walt Disney World Resort. The only real similarity between the two (2) systems will be that Guests will be able to book the Fastpasses through the Disneyland mobile app, website, or using one of the in-park kiosks. The Disneyland kiosks will be located throughout the parks in Walt Disney World style, so there will be no need to visit each ride to get the Fastpass.
Guests will be able to get another Fastpass once a certain amount of time passes, I’m guessing it will probably stay around 2 hours. So, really picture the current Fastpass system, but digital.
It doesn’t appear that Magic Bands or the RFID system will be making their way to Disneyland Resort. With the recent testing that was done at Space Mountain in Disneyland Park, Cast Members scanned the barcode on the paper Fastpass. Disneyland Resort also offers Annual Passholders a digital ticket that gives them the ability to pull their ticket up through the mobile app and have Cast Members scan a barcode for park entry. So, it would make sense for them to continue with the trend and Guests would pull up their digital Fastpass on their phones or tablets and there would be a barcode that Cast Members would scan.
It is unclear how the new digital system will work for World of Color or Fantasmic! (once it is showing again). Currently, these Fastpasses do not count as an actual Fastpass, so Guests can have a Fastpass for one of the nighttime shows and get another Fastpass right away.
The only problem I see with this whole thing is that the Disneyland parks do not currently offer free wifi and to top it off the cell service in the parks is not the greatest, no matter which carrier you have.
There has been no official word from Disney Parks on when the system will be rolling out, but many expect it to be in the near future.

I’m kind of jealous… this seems like a more relaxed transition than the rollout at WDW.
