Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the need for more thrilling attractions at Epcot. I get that many people would rather speed along a track at 65 mph versus crawling past intricate scenes depicting the history of transportation; alas, I wax nostalgic for World of Motion and Horizons. I’d love to have the opportunity to enjoy these attractions again.
While much of the Epcot of my childhood is lost to time, Spaceship Earth is much as it was when I first rode it in the 1985. The 180-foot geosphere that houses Spaceship Earth is the icon of Epcot and serves as the gateway to Future World. Each time I walk beneath the awe-inspiring structure, I’m struck by the enormity of what Disney accomplished. Not only is it an architectural marvel, the structure also houses my favorite Epcot attraction.
My fondness for Spaceship Earth is firmly rooted in nostalgia. So why should new Guests hop aboard this “miraculous spaceship?”
1. It’s an Epcot original. With the other omnimover attractions completely gone or shadows of their former selves (I’m looking at you Journey Into Imagination with Figment!), Spaceship Earth remains true to its roots. Despite the updates made over the past 33 years, Guests can still experience one of the signature 1982 attractions and glimpse the hopeful vision of the future prevalent at Epcot during its early days.

2. History can be fun! Okay, this one may be a tough sell for many Guests, but history doesn’t have to be dry and boring! On Spaceship Earth history springs to life as Guests hop aboard their “time machine vehicle” and wind their way past scenes depicting the importance of communication in our lives. None other than Dame Judi Dench serves as the tour guide while Guests travel from the “dawn of recorded history to the promise of tomorrow.”
3.The details. The cast of lifelike Audio-Animatronics clothed in accurate period costumes and incredibly detailed sets transports Guests to another time and place. Spaceship Earth is a feast for the eyes, but be sure to listen closely as each scene features its own unique style of music.

4. It’s relaxing. This 16-minute attraction is a great place to rest if Guests are in Future World during the heat of the day. For a longer break, Guests should opt for Ellen’s Energy Adventure which has a duration of 45 minutes.
DIStracted Tip: While it may be tempting to ride Spaceship Earth right away, it’s best to leave this attraction for later in the day when the line is shorter.
Is Spaceship Earth one of your favorite attractions or do you prefer the more thrilling Epcot attractions like Test Track and Mission:SPACE? Personally, I hope Disney continues to maintain and revitalize Spaceship Earth so future Guests can experience this classic attraction for years to come.
