As much as I love Walt Disney World, I’m always looking for fun local places to go with my family. Seeing that Nashville is a stop along the way to Orlando for many of our Midwest Disney fans that may be driving, I thought I would share about our local waterpark- Nashville Shores Lakeside Resort!
Nashville has several beautiful waterways running through the city. Nashville Shores Lakeside Resort is built along the J. Percy Priest Lake. The centerpiece of this resort is the fantastic waterpark that has fun for all ages. I recently took my 2 daughters to the waterpark and I was thoroughly impressed with the cleanliness and fun we had!

When we first arrived at the park, we of course went through a bag check. Then we entered into the center of the park. There was a sign that pointed us in the different directions of the Wave Pool, Kiddie area and the water slides. My youngest was immediately drawn to the Kowabunga Beach area. This was an amazing playground that is 4 stories tall with water splashing everywhere and 4 small slides to get her warmed up to the idea of the bigger slides. A giant bucket slowly fills with water and dumps from the top of the structure every few minutes. Needless to say – this is a kids’ DREAM playground!
As we walked around the park, I was impressed with all the watersides and how many accommodated more than one rider. As a mom with kids that are usually a little nervous about new things, this was a great way for me to be able to help calm their nerves about the large slides. There were lots of quick-service food options as well.
DIStracted Tip: The Nashville Shores website says that no outside food or drinks are allowed. While I did see several families with coolers, I followed the rules stated on the website and we purchased snacks at different food stands around the park.
The Rides
The newest slide at Nashville Shores is the Big Kahuna. This slide is 57 feet tall and is intended for families (up to 4 guests at a time) to enjoy together! The mega-tube takes guests through a dark tunnel in a maze of twists and turns and curves! My girls were a little nervous of the height, and then the darkness of the ride. Once we splashed down into the catch pool they were BEGGING to ride again!
DIStracted Tip: For information on ticket pricing and group discounts check out the Nashville Shores website!
This waterpark was certainly a hit with my family and we will be back! Both of my girls said that they had just as much fun in the hours we were there as they did at a day of being at Walt Disney World. I don’t know if I’d go that far, but it was a blast!
Accommodations
Now, there is more than just a waterpark at Nashville Shores! They also feature RV sites as well as lakeside cabins! Cabins and RV sites are open seasonally; for 2016 they are available until November 27. There is also the Treetop Adventure Park, which is filled with interactive obstacle courses. Take a ride on a zip-line, Tarzan swings and test your fears on the suspended bridges! Great for groups or families looking for a fun outdoors adventure.
So, if you are planning on driving to Walt Disney World or just looking for a fun spot in Nashville to stop and spend some time with your family, I suggest Nashville Shores Lakeside Resort! I know my family can’t wait to go back.
