During my first stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas in the Animal Kingdom area of the Walt Disney World Resort, we decided to eat dinner at Boma – Flavors of Africa restaurant. Boma is an all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet that resembles a lively African marketplace located in the Jambo section of the Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas. However, as we had not made reservations before our stay, we had a 30 minute wait. With time to kill, we decided to explore the resort and we stumbled upon the Victoria Falls Lounge.
Victoria Falls Lounge is an intimate lounge/bar that offers a warm and inviting respite from the busy day and bustling restaurant. The lounge is painted in cool colors and has mahogany furniture. You can choose to sit in one of the many cocktail table setups, or you can sit directly at the bar which showcases many beverage offerings. The seating area looks down over Boma restaurant and has window views to the landscape of the resort. Although the look and feel of the lounge is enough to make you wander in, the real draw of the lounge is the unique and delicious bar menu.
The bar offers a full selection of beers, wines and specialty cocktails, as well as an assortment of small plates and appetizers. Not only do they offer domestic beers and wines, but you can also sample beer and wine from South Africa and other African countries, like the Tusker Premium Lager from Kenya. And if you get hungry while waiting for your reservation, or just come for a light bite, you can munch on your choice of appetizers including the Artisanal Cheese Plate, the Tandori-Spiced Chicken Wings or the African-Inspired Tapas, which include a variety of small bites, like dates, cumin green olives and black mission figs.

Although the food choices are delicious, I highly recommend you save some space for the large selection of specialty cocktails. While waiting for our dinner reservation, my husband, daughter and I grabbed a couple chairs and a small table overlooking both the restaurant and bar. After asking the bartender for his recommendations for drinks based on my likes/dislikes, I decided to order one of the featured drinks, the Blue Glow-tini – a cocktail with citrus vodka, peach schnapps, blue curacoa and pineapple juice. It turned out looking like one of my daughter’s fun beverages, complete with a color changing ice cube inside, however, it was the perfect mix of sweet and smooth. My husband ordered the Smoked Turkey, which is a combination of various bourbons, lemonade and grenadine. While not my cup to tea, he very much enjoyed his drink.
After we got through our drink, we were called downstairs to eat dinner. And although dinner was amazing, I have to say the experience at Victoria Falls was quite memorable. So should you have a reservation at Boma, or one of the other restaurants in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas, I suggest you get there a bit early to enjoy the experience at Victoria Falls Lounge, or perhaps just stop by for a late afternoon break!
