John Montague, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, was quite the multi-tasker. He was a very busy guy who loved to gamble and play cards for several hours at a time, leaving him no time to sit down for a meal. This innovator had the genius idea to put meat in between slices of bread for a hand-held meal that allowed him to grab a bite to eat without stopping his game. Now, hundreds of years later, his “descendants” at Earl of Sandwich are serving up delicious sandwiches fit for royalty!
Earl of Sandwich is located in the Marketplace area of Disney Springs. We always try to arrive at Walt Disney World around lunchtime on the first day of our trip, so we can stop in for a great tasting sandwich before heading to our resort.

The menu at Earl of Sandwich is quite simple, but offers a wide variety. Lunch and dinner offerings include hot sandwiches, wraps, soups, and salads along with several fresh side items sold a la carte. My husband is a creature of habit and orders The Original 1762 every time. It features hot roast beef, cheddar cheese, and horseradish in between crusty on the outside, soft on the inside warm, artisan bread.

The All-American is a delicious option. In between the artisan bread is warm turkey, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, ranch dressing, and cranberry sauce for a tangy kick. I used to order the All-American until one visit during the Fall. The Holiday Turkey sandwich was being offered as a seasonal special item. Since it was near the holiday season, I couldn’t resist the hand-held Thanksgiving dinner. The Holiday Turkey sandwich consists of hot turkey, cornbread dressing, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, and mayo in between the warm slices of their delicious artisan bread. This sandwich is indescribably good! AND, lucky for me (and you), due to the popularity of the Holiday Turkey sandwich, it is now a regular item on the menu. That’s right, you can get yourself a Thanksgiving dinner any time at Earl of Sandwich!

I have two picky little eaters, but they love the Just 4 Kids Grilled Cheese sandwich. It is not just your run-of-the-mill grilled cheese sandwich. It is served on the delicious signature bread, but it includes two different types of cheese–cheddar and swiss. It is super melty, and the cheese pulls apart when you separate the two halves; a sure sign of a great grilled cheese. The Just 4 Kids menu also includes a Turkey ‘N’ Swiss sandwich and a Pizza Sandwich. The Pizza sandwich sounds delicious, but I’ve never been brave enough to order it for my two very small, very messy children.

Earl of Sandwich also serves breakfast from 8:30-11:00AM each morning. The breakfast menu includes hot egg and meat breakfast sandwiches, made to order omelets, oatmeal, and yogurt parfaits. Unfortunately, I’ve never had the chance to sample any of their breakfast items, but they sound delicious.
As much as I love Earl of Sandwich, I must point out a couple of small negatives. Due to its popularity and the sandwiches being made to order, the line is usually VERY long. Don’t let that deter you, though. The line moves pretty quickly. The employees work assembly line style to efficiently make the sandwiches as swiftly as possible. In addition to the long line, it can be quite difficult to find a seat. The inside has limited seating, but there are many tables set up outside. We, along with most others, find that dividing and conquering is the best strategy–I take my two little ones and find a table, while my husband orders and brings the food to us.
DIStracted tip: The Disney Dining Plan is accepted at Earl of Sandwich. It counts as a Quick Service Meal. You can also use snack credits here as well. Just look for the Disney Dining Plan icon when making your selections.
The next time you find yourself in the Disney Springs area, I highly recommend Earl of Sandwich for all your royal dining needs.
