My family and some of our friends had the pleasure of attending the second in a series of four Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member-only events at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, the DVC Neighborhood Beach Bash. The DVC Neighborhood Beach Bash, held on four select nights in June and July, was a complimentary evening event at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, one of two water parks located in the Walt Disney World Resort. The Beach Bash, held from 9:30 pm – 12:30 am, was for DVC members and Guests only. The event featured a DJ dance party, family fun beach activities, complimentary refreshments and treats, and a meet-and-greet opportunity with select Disney Vacation Club executives.
We chose to attend the event on one of the two nights the event was held in June. After my family checked into our resort for the evening, Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows, we went over to the Guest Services desk to check-in and get our admission bands for the event. As it was approaching 8:30 pm, we all donned our swim suits, and headed off to the park. Special bus transportation was available from select DVC resorts; however, we opted to utilize the free parking at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, so we could get our kids home when they were ready to go.
As we approached the water park entrance, we were greeted by the signature 25 Year Anniversary logo on glowing balloons and spotlights. And once we were inside the park, it was clear that the place to be was the main beach area surrounding the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool. It was lit up to almost daytime light, and everyone was milling about the beach enjoying their free snacks, including Mickey ice cream bars, potato chips and pink lemonade. They also had the speakers pumping music from the 60’s inspired Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach 2, as well as the best summer tunes from every decade in between now and then. As it turned out, the beach surrounding the surf pool also acted as a good meet up point for our group, so both the small kids and grown-up kids could enjoy the attractions.
As we explored the park, we noticed the various family-friendly activities, including hula hoop spinning and water balloon toss contests. Everyone seemed to be having a ball, but as we had a toddler with us, we headed over to Ketchakiddee Creek, the pint-sized water play area that had plenty of shallow pools and baby slides to keep the munchkin busy for a good 30 minutes. After the baby bored of that, we decided to float our way back to our beach-side home base via Castaway Creek, the lazy river that encircles the park.
While my friend and I were keeping the little one busy, the boys took the older kids into the Wave Pool and Gangplank Falls, the slide large enough for a 4-person tube, so the whole group could ride together. They also enjoyed the massive waves being produced in the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool.
As this was a late night event and the little ones had lasted as long as they could, we decided to call it a night around 11:00 pm. But we got one last treat as we made our way out of the park. Just as we approached the path that led out of the park, we had the chance to meet Donald and Goofy, who were dressed in their Hawaiian-themed outfits, complete with surfboard back drop. While we were all ready to head back to the resort, the kids couldn’t pass up an opportunity to meet some of their favorite characters.
All in all, this was a unique way to experience a Disney water park at night and we are glad we were able to enjoy it. If you were able to attend the event, we hope that you had as much of a “Bash” as we did!
