There is no doubt that character meals are a great way to knock out several characters at one time. On our latest trip to Walt Disney World, we took advantage of character meals (remember our 1900 Park Fare Breakfast magic?) to save precious time in the parks. While Cinderella’s Royal Table is the epitome of Disney magic- the often overlooked Akershus Royal Banquet Hall- Storybook Dining in the Norway Pavilion is where we set off to check off our list of Princess sightings!
We have previously been to Akershus Royal Banquet Hall for a breakfast meal and we fell in love with the character interactions. We decided for this trip to try the lunch option, as we enjoy trying new things when we are in Epcot. I was thrilled that we were easily able to book an Advanced Dining Reservation only a month out from our trip in March.
We experienced a heavy downpour the day we were planning to be in Epcot and I was so nervous about our lunchtime plans. There is not a lot of indoor waiting space in Akershus, but the Cast Members had set up a few large umbrellas for Guests to stand under while waiting for tables. You could tell that they were trying to make the process as painless as possible for the Guests. I think everyone was checking in early and Guests inside were taking their time to leave, so there was quite a bottleneck. I like to remember that I’d rather spend a rainy day at Disney than be at home, so we made the best of the situation!
Once our names were called, we were guided inside and took our picture with Belle. Since we were rain soaked… I will spare you the picture of our family. Just know- Belle was lovely and we were able to get to our table within a reasonable amount of time.
Akershus has a unique cold bar with the “Taste of Norway” selection of some of the finest Scandinavian Seafood, Imported Cheeses, cured and sliced Meats, as well as a selection of Salads and Fruits. While these foods are not anything typical, it was fun to get to taste some of the Norwegian favorites. We all sampled a few of the dishes- and got a few funny faces from my girls.
My oldest daughter was the least adventurous during this meal. She picked Mac & Cheese as her lunch. While I wish that she had tried something else, I’m happy that they had a “kid friendly” option for her. This was a very creamy dish, not your typical “boxed” mac & cheese. My youngest ordered the meatballs and at first was confused- I think she expected more of a “spaghetti & meatball” style dish. She did enjoy the meatballs though and ate all of her corn that came with the dish. My husband had the beef dish and I had a seafood dish that was amazing!
Now on to our family’s favorite portion! The Princesses! We love how much interaction we get with the princesses and my daughters get so excited when they announce the Promenade. It is such a wonderful time for the girls to get to waltz through the restaurant with some of the Disney Princesses. It’s certainly a moment to remember for all little girls!
I know that Akershus will continue to make our list of “Must-Do’s” when we visit the Walt Disney World Resort! It’s wonderful to see the smiles on their faces and it’s exciting to try new foods.
