Disney Parks answered the call from all food allergy sufferers with the introduction of new allergy-friendly menus yesterday. The allergy-friendly menus will provide a convenient list of foods available for those with special dietary needs. These new menus will be available at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and, in the coming months, they will be available at about 120 restaurants including table service and counter service restaurants.
The new menus will focus on the most common allergies such as gluten/wheat, peanuts/tree nut, fish and milk. The allergy-friendly menus will provide a list of allergen content for each item, and will include appetizers, entrees, side choices, desserts and, of course, kids’ meals.
“Over the years, the number of guests with food allergies and intolerances has continued to grow. In 2013 alone, our cast members assisted with more than 650,000 special dietary requests. These new allergy menus are another way in which we can provide high-quality, safe and more accessible alternatives, and the best possible dining experience for guests with specific dietary needs,” says Gary Jones, chef and culinary dietary specialist for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Those with food allergies have always been able to personally discuss their particular allergy with a chef or special diets trained cast member, and this is still available to guests. Disney Parks encourages guests to continue to communicate their special dietary needs with restaurant cast members, as it allows the culinary team to take little extra steps to prevent cross contamination during prep.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is the recipient of a FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) Award for dedication to providing a safe and enjoyable dining experience for vacationing families and our chefs have been recognized for their commitment to food allergy awareness, education and management.
