Worried about arriving at a Walt Disney World park or resort in time for an early breakfast reservation? Trying to figure out how to get to Universal Orlando Resort from Disney? Stressed about traveling from resort to resort? Staying off-site and don’t want to drive or use your hotel bus? Do you just dislike Disney transportation? It’s time to sign up for an Uber account!
Uber is a transportation company that connects riders with drivers via an app. Instead of waiting an unknown amount of time for a bus or paying for a taxi, Uber is an affordable, quick way to get around Walt Disney World Resort and beyond.
Wondering how it works? Follow these easy steps, and you will be on your way!
Before your trip:
- Get on your computer and sign up for an account. Use this link with my referral code to get your first ride free (up to $15). Sign Up for Uber
- Include an active credit card that will only be billed when you get a ride with Uber.
- Download the app on your phone (it is available on Apple, Google and Windows devices)
Ready to go?
- Open your Uber app.
- Uber will show your current location and how long you will wait for the nearest Uber driver.
- Make sure the Green dot shows your correct current location or type it in.
- Type in your destination in the box next to the red dot.
- The black box on your screen shows your wait time for an Uber. Tap the arrow to the right of “Set Pickup Location.”
- If you want to find out how much your ride will cost, click on Fare Estimate at the bottom left.
- When you are ready click on Request uberX. Your approximate pick-up time also appears.
- You will then see the name of your driver with a photo and make/model of their vehicle.
- You can watch your driver’s progress towards your destination and see that they are arriving.
- You can send your driver a text message or call them to provide more specific information about your exact location.
- When your driver arrives, climb in and enjoy the ride. Our drivers have always had clean, newer vehicles and have been very friendly.
- You can watch your progress on the app and send anybody else a text message showing your trip information including your driver and progress. (I enjoyed this feature when my husband had to make an unexpected trip to a drug store during a recent vacation. I could see exactly where he was and how long until he returned to our resort.)
- Traveling with friends? If they have the Uber app, you can split the fare so that the price will be shared between your accounts.
When you arrive….
- When you arrive, thank your driver and leave. Tipping is not expected. Your fare will automatically be billed to your credit card.
- You will receive an email from Uber shortly with your trip info including the final fare.
- You can review your driver after the trip.
- If you forgot something in your Uber, you can pull up your Trip History in the app and click, “Need Help.” You will then be able to report a lost item as well as report issues with your fare or driver.

Coming soon: Using Uber in Walt Disney World Part 2: Frequently Asked Questions.
Please share your questions here, and I will answer them in part 2!
Great article about using uber around WDW. It seems uber drivers are all over the area and waits are usually 8 min or less. It’s very convenient. I did learn that while tipping is not expected – it is appreciated and we tipped a few bucks ($2-3) for all rides.
Thanks John! I am going to update about tipping in the next article and edit this one to reflect that tipping is a good idea!
Any info on if the uber drivers have booster seats for kids while using on WDW property?
Currently, there is no way to request it through the app. I know of at least one Uber driver that has booster and car seats for her passengers and can work with you to prearrange a ride. But if you just go by the app, you would have to contact the driver to ask them and then cancel if they don’t have it.
Thank you for the prompt reply. How would I be able to contact the woman for more information on possibly arranging something?
