How to Indulge in Your Favorite Brew at Walt Disney World Resort Without Breaking the Bank!
If you’re like me and my husband, you enjoy a nice, cold, frosty beer after a fun-filled day in the Parks. There is something instantly gratifying about hearing, smelling and tasting your favorite brew on a hot central Florida day. What can be less satisfying is the sticker shock that might be associated with said indulgence. Don’t fret my fellow beer fans, we have some tips for you!
1) Delivery Service
Garden Grocer is one of several grocery delivery services. If you are staying at a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Resort and plan to use the kitchen to cook, this could be your best option! These delivery services will bring you BEER, wine, water, groceries, etc. right to your resort. Some services require you to be there when they deliver, others will make special arrangements. There is also a delivery charge that varies from service to service as well as a minimum purchase price, so if all you are looking for is beer, this might not be the best option. I like this option because it does not take time away from your magical vacation and is so much easier if you have young kids!
2) Car Rental/Taxi/Shuttle Service
If you are renting a car and not taking Disney’s Magical Express, then the solution is pretty simple! Head over to a Publix or Walgreens and purchase your liquid gold! If you decide to have a taxi take you to one of the nearby grocery stores, price will vary based on distance. Want to make sure that you have a certified taxi? Ask Guest Services to call one for you. Many shuttle services from the airport will bring you to a store (some included in the cost) for a quick stop to purchase supplies. This option has never been great for us because we are fans of frugal and this all costs extra money AND it takes time away from your vacation.
3) Hess Gas Stations
Okay, so if you have ever purchased groceries while at Walt Disney World Resort (WDW), you probably know about the above options. If you are just looking to buy a case of beer, Hess Gas Stations can be a great solution at about $15 for 12 domestic beers (you would pay the same for a six-pack at WDW). You have two options here: A) from Downtown Disney, cross Buena Vista Drive, about a 5 minute walk from the West Side bus stop (my husband and I did this and it took about 1.5 hours door to door from our Resort room at Pop Century). Or B) cross the street from Disney’s Boardwalk Villas. We have only done this once, and it would not be worth the trip with two kids in tow, but single it was a great adventure and some great savings!
4) Bite the Bullet
Now that my husband and I are more mature, we are still frugal but we realize that time is money, especially on a vacation. We now “bite the bullet” so to speak and buy six-packs at our Resort’s gift shop. It usually costs about $15, but that is a better bargain than purchasing a single beer at the gift shop for $5.50! This saves us time, and a headache of dragging our 2 young children with us. There are also numerous lounges and restaurants at which you can enjoy a wider selection of beers. I recommend Epcot’s World Showcase!
