It was just announced at Comic Con International: San Diego that the rumors were TRUE! Guardians of the Galaxy are taking over Tower of Terror in an all new attraction coming Summer 2017. In the video below you will catch the hint of a Marvel Land making it’s way to Disney’s California Adventure park.
Deep inside his fortress-like collection, the mysterious Taneleer Tivan (aka The Collector) is displaying his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy. They are trapped in customized display cases, suspended over a vast abyss. Unbeknownst to their unscrupulous captor, the intrepid Rocket has escaped and is enlisting the Collector’s VIP guests for help. Guests board a gantry lift, which launches them into a chaotic and hilarious adventure as they join Rocket in an attempt to break his fellow Guardians out of captivity. ~ Disney Parks Blog
According to Disney Parks Blog Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT will be the anchor to a bigger Super Hero universe that will be growing at the park. I expect more information about the Marvel Land to be announced at D23 Expo in July 2017.
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is scheduled to close early 2017, so Imagineers can start working on the overhaul to bring the Guardians to California Adventure. The new ride will still feature the free fall sensation, but will have all new visual effects and just like the Guardians of the Galaxy movies music will play a big role!
Guests will experience multiple random, unique ride profiles in which the rise and fall of the gantry lift will rock to the beat of music inspired by the film’s popular soundtrack. ~ Disney Parks Blog
