Allergy-friendly culinary demonstrations are coming to the 2015 Food and Wine Festival at Epcot! The demonstrations are scheduled to take place throughout the day at the Festival Center on October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and are the first-ever at the Food and Wine Festival to be free of the top 8 allergens. Amanda Freitag, a chef and restaurant owner who lives with her own food allergy, will prepare meals free of milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.
Mylan, the company that makes the EpiPen, is sponsoring the demonstrations which will be part of the EpiPen on Location Initiative, which is described as “a national call-to-action for those living with potentially life-threatening (severe) allergies and their caregivers to understand the importance of avoiding allergic triggers and having access to two epinephrine auto-injectors, such as EpiPen (epinephrine injection) Auto-Injectors, at all times – whether at home, school, work or on vacation.”
In addition to Chef Freitag, Augie Maturo of the Disney series Girl Meets World will be in attendance with his parents to talk about living with severe allergies.
