Having methodically booked our vacation almost a year in advance to coincide with the annual celebration of Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, our family was crushed when it was announced that there would be no such celebration this year. But numerous Star Wars-themed additions, like a meet and greet with a TALKING Kylo Wren, the addition of scenes from The Force Awakens to Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, and the opening of Star Wars Launch Bay (to name just a few) gave our family “A New Hope.”

Even better, today’s announcement of a new Star Wars stage show, procession and nighttime spectacular has me really feeling like “there has been an awakening, have you felt it?”
Beginning April 4th, guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios can enjoy “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away,” a new live show appearing on Center Stage, featuring “iconic moments from the film saga” and characters like “Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and Darth Maul.”
And “multiple times each day” beginning April 4th, our favorite shiny stormtrooper, Captain Phasma, will lead a “platoon of First Order Stormtroopers” in a processional from Star Wars Launch Bay to Center Stage.
Although our family is likely to miss its debut, beginning “this summer” guests will be treated to “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular,” described as “the next generation of the current Star Wars-inspired fireworks show.” The spectacular will include “fireworks, pyrotechnics, special effects and video projections that will turn the nearby Chinese Theater and other buildings into the twin suns of Tatooine, a field of battle droids, the trench of the Death Star, Starkiller Base and other Star Wars destinations.”

This sounds a lot like the technology used in the “Celebrate the Magic” (formerly “Let the Memories Begin”) nightly spectacular at Magic Kingdom Park and the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration nightly spectacle, “Disneyland Forever.” The new show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will feature “a tower of fire and spotlight beams, creating massive lightsabers in the sky.”

The eagerly anticipated arrival of an official “Star Wars Land” may feel like it’s “in a galaxy far, far away.” But, the many recent and upcoming Star Wars-themed additions and upgrades at Disney’s Hollywood Studios should be enough to satiate even the most ardent fans of the Star Wars Saga…for now.
Until then, “may the Force be with you…always.”
