Down New York Street, past The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, stands a very large, unassuming gate. It’s a normal gate by Disney’s Hollywood Studios standards. But, for thousands of guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort, it is a gate that holds the grand promise of surprise. What, or should I say who, stands behind that gate is a delight for children and adults alike.
It is Character Palooza, an unpublished character meet and greet, that takes place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Each day a new set of characters come out to mix and mingle with guests.
Because this event is not listed in the times guide, the crowds are fairly low and the character interaction is fabulous. What is super cool is that guests have the chance to meet rare characters! And let’s face it, how often do you get to practice warrior moves with Mushu?
We were thrilled to experience Charater Palooza this past October. We met Snow White, Mr. Smee, Mulan and Mushu, Gepetto and Princess Tiana. My boys loved meeting new friends and having time to spend with each one. I was over the moon excited with seeing Mr. Smee, whom I dressed up as for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
Here are some tips to enhance your experience:
- Check Kenny the Pirate for the daily schedule. The days and times are subject to change.
- Arrive a few minutes early; this event only lasts 15-20 minutes.
- Bring a camera; there are no Disney PhotoPass photographers.
- The characters will sign autographs so have those books and pens ready.
- The gate you are looking for is located beyond the exit from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror; it will be closed until start time and you will know they are ready when that gate opens.
- This event will be cancelled if there is inclement weather as it is at an outdoor location.
Have you experienced Character Palooza? We would love to hear who you got to meet!

Karen, you and your family will love it! We love meeting rare characters that aren’t often found in the parks. Leave it to Disney to add even more magic!
