A rumor has been going around that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom will be closing for an extended period for a big refurbishment. Well, we now have confirmation that the Wildest Ride in the Wilderness won’t be so wild for about 3 months! That’s right folks, Big Thunder Mountain won’t be accepting any passengers starting April 4, 2016 and isn’t scheduled to be back on track until July 2016.
While some were hoping that the long refurbishment meant some major upgrades, like those received at Disneyland Park in 2014, it doesn’t seem like the changes will be that extensive. Yes, 3 months is a long time for one of the most popular rides to be down; Disneyland’s Big Thunder Mountain was down for over a year for its major overhaul. There will be some upgrades, but with the much shorter refurbishment schedule they won’t be as big.
