Pedaling your way around the “world” on a bicycle or surrey bike is a great way to see your Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. You can ride along the banks of the Sassagoula River, pedal down the promenade by Barefoot Bay, or pedal around a woodland pathway. There are many Disney bike rental locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort.

Pedaling Around the World: Disney Bike Rentals

The Walt Disney World website has a complete list of resort hotels that offer bicycle and surrey bike rentals. If your resort doesn’t have a rental location, never fear! Unlike pool hopping, resort hopping is encouraged and you can take advantage of much of the recreation available.

How Many People Can Fit in a Surrey Bike?

Choose a 2-person, 4-person or 6-person surrey bike for an outing that’s fun for the whole family! As you can see, some of the surrey bikes have a little seat on the front. Those lucky folks don’t have to pedal to enjoy their ride.

Do the Bicycles Come in Various Sizes?

Yes. Disney knows that kids and kids at heart love to ride bikes. So, both adult bikes and children’s bikes, some with training wheels, are available for rent.

How Long Can I Keep My Disney Bike Rental?

Typically, bicycle rentals are for an hour; however, some locations offer all-day rentals. Surrey bikes, on the other hand, are rented by the half hour and hour.

Are Helmets Required for the Bicycles?

Florida law requires bicyclists under 16 years of age to wear helmets, and Guests must remain within the specific Resort area where the bike has been rented. Helmets and child seats are complimentary with all bike rentals.

My Experience with Surrey Bike Rentals

Our home away from home when vacationing at Walt Disney World is Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. During the planning process, I factor in at least one resort day. This day is mostly spent at, you guessed it, our resort. Disney did away with boat rentals at their moderate resorts but bicycle and surrey bike rentals are available at many of their resort hotels.

A quick lesson on how to operate the surrey bike

Once we had decided which surrey bike we wanted, the cast member pulled it out from the line. We were then given a quick lesson on how to operate the surrey bike. The brake is the lever near the steering wheel. When you pass other Guests, you are to ring the bell directly above the driver. This will let the Guests know that you are near.

Safety instructions and Route information

Safety instructions and route information are clearly marked on the surrey bike “dashboard.” Even though we had rented bicycles and surrey bikes many times, I always doubt the route when we approach the feature pool and courtyard at Old Port Royale. This is simply because there are usually quite a few people in the area. Having said that, we haven’t had a single “near miss” experience with any of the other Guests.

Disney Bike Rentals – A great way to see other parts of the resort!

When you rent a bicycle or surrey bike at any of the Walt Disney World Resort hotels, you get to see the resort from a whole new perspective! During our two laps around Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, we rode past all the various “islands.” The cycle course took us over two wooden walkways through a wooded area. Along the way, we waved to other Guests, pedaled to our hearts’ content, and had a great time as a family!
