According to the Orange County Register Disney has submitted plans for its fourth Disneyland area hotel. For Disneyland Guests this is fantastic news! Right now, there are only three (3) Disney hotels near Disneyland which is much less than the 25+ Disney hotels located in Walt Disney World.
Disney is proposing to build a 700 room four (4) diamond luxury hotel and a new parking structure in the northern part of the Downtown Disney District parking lot including the Lilo lot. Disney plans to use a total of 10 acres at 1401 Disneyland Drive.
“Walt Disney Imagineering will design the hotel, which currently does not have a theme, Disneyland officials said. Guests will sit on a rooftop deck to watch Disneyland’s nightly fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle, there will be signature restaurants, two pools, a fitness facility, concierge service and a kid’s play area.” ~Quote directly from Orange County Register
The last Disneyland area hotel built was Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa in 2001 and it along with the Disneyland Hotel are the only two (2) hotels in Anaheim to achieve the highly rated AAA four diamond rating. Disney must spend $225,000 per Guest room! This includes at least $30,000 in furniture and fixtures in each room.
“This new flagship hotel would create thousands of jobs and benefit Anaheim with more than $750 million in additional tax revenue over the next four decades, while helping the city reach its stated goal of attracting more high-end visitors,” said Suzi Brown, Disneyland spokeswoman. The new hotel and parking structure is part of a $2 billion expansion plan that also includes the highly anticipated Star Wars Land and a 5,000-spot parking structure and transit center. Disney is hoping to start construction on the new hotel in 2018 with opening sometime in 2021.
