If there is one thing that any Disney lover is always waiting for is the next big “RUMOR” of what will be happening around the Walt Disney World Resort. Well, the Magical DIStractions team has heard a major rumor and we couldn’t wait to share!
In 2007, Disney announced a new area called Flamingo Crossing to the west of WDW. It had by and large, been forgotten and nothing being planned or started in the area for many years. Being “forgotten” in Walt Disney World doesn’t always mean a project or idea has been scrapped for good- just that they want to rework and investigate new options.
Marriott recently filed plans to build two new hotels in this area- both “suite” style hotels with extra amenities such as kitchens and larger room size. While these hotels would be a perfect option for guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort, there are rumors that this sudden permit could mean that perhaps there is more being planned for the area that we (the general public) aren’t being told quite yet.
There is quite a large open area near Flamingo Crossing that could be a perfect place for a brand new Disney Theme Park to open up and the rumor mill is buzzing with anticipation. Could this be a FIFTH park? In discussion with the rest of the team this is what we came up with:
- A Star Wars themed park? This doesn’t seem likely, as Disney’s Hollywood Studios seems to be making large strides toward expansion of the current Star Wars theming.
- Many guests love the Disney Villains, so perhaps this could be a park dedicated to those beloved Disney Villain Characters. Couldn’t you just see a Cruella de Vil car ride? How about a simulator ride featuring Jafar and the Cave of Wonders? The possibilities here are really endless- but would it have the wide draw to bring families?
- Marvel Comics would be a great option- however there are contract issues that make this prospect far fetched.
- Tokyo DisneySea is very popular in Asia- could they bring the nautical adventure park theme to America? It has been one of the most successful parks, so this could be an easy idea to bring “home” to Walt Disney World.
Personally, I love a good rumor and how my fellow Disney lovers start to dream. There is some excitement while we wait for things to come to light. 2021 will be the 50th “Golden Anniversary” of the Walt Disney World Resort. This would be a perfect time to start something sensational for the Resort. Hopefully whatever is going on in Flamingo Crossing, is as exciting and pivotal as we dream it could be. Of course, another great shopping area and affordable hotel options would be wonderful as well!
What are your ideas for this area? Would you welcome a 5th park or are you happy with the current 4?
I could definitely go for a Villains park! Especially since they aren’t really out at any of the other parks regularly
Very interesting!! It would make more sense if Star Wars had it’s own park, however, with the new Star Wars addition at Hollywood Studios it doesn’t make sense. I guess we have to wait and see….
I would think it would be lodging before anything else. I know a few people that have worked for many many years for Disney and I get a lot of scoop and I am on almost everything Disney that I can be found.
Points
1. They can not fill all the parks now. It has been said that no more parks will be opened till they can get the parks to bear are full capacity.
2. Hollywood Studios has been under performing for years now and this is why Frozen was put there in hopes to shift more traffic that way. The down side is there is not a days worth of fun there. This is why there is the massive push that is coming soon and/or currently going on. To add more hip attractions.
3. Animal Kingdom is not a all day park because it closes so early and does not hit full capacity either. This is why they are also making a huge push in adding attractions. Once completed the hours are going to be extended and a night time light show will be added. Most likely it will not be fireworks for it would upset the animals.
4. The Villains are going to get there home a Hollywood Studios so the inside talk goes as follows. Hollywood will feature a Villains attraction to go with the Villain store there.
5. Word is also that with Epcot getting new country’s and attractions. Disney really has its hands full at this time.
6. They just also offered to lay a large sum out to save one of the other over seas Disney Parks the is going under.
Lodging is clearly a big deal and most logical. However, Animal Kingdom will start staying open later when the Avatarland opens up, so there is hope that AK increases in popularity.
Of course, these are just dreams and ideas. None of us have been able to steal Madame Leota’s crystal ball yet… 😉
