Summertime is always the time for blockbuster movies to hit the theaters, and Disney never disappoints. Finding Dory came out recently, bringing folks to the theater in record-breaking numbers. I have heard and read fantastic reviews about this much anticipated sequel to Finding Nemo.
One of the ways our family of five chooses to save for our bi-annual trips to Walt Disney World, is through hosting Disney movie nights rather going to the theaters or out to dinner frequently. We will be sure to see Finding Dory when it comes out on blu-ray; but until that time would you like to join us for another Disney Movie Night? This one takes us down life’s highway …
I went all out on the decorations for our Cars Movie Night. I was able to find a Cars themed party kit online, which I ordered. It was very economical in price, and it was so festive and fun. I have a habit saving all of my movie night and party decorations, and I have been able to reuse these on several occasions.
In addition to what you see in the photos, we also made “road lines” with yellow streamer on top of the black table cloth. We loved the way it all came together.
For our food, we named each dish after a famous Cars character.
We created “Mater’s Motor Oil Sundaes” for dessert, using vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. To garnish the sundaes, we made these cute little treats using graham crackers, chocolate frosting, and coated chocolate candies:
Our evening activity was a rousing game of old fashioned “Red Light/ Green Light” out in the yard. It always amazes me that no matter what age my children are (two of them are teenagers now), they never cease to fully immerse themselves into the movie night tradition. Even when the games and activities are simple and nostalgic, they always seem to genuinely enjoy them, and have a wonderful time.
Our children are never too old for our time, love, and attention. Studies show that there are many emotional and psychological benefits to the family dinner table. One can only hope that adding these fun and memorable Disney traditions to the dinner table experience will have lasting positive effects on our children as well!
