This announcement has a long history. In the 1929 Disney short Karnival Kid, Mickey Mouse uttered his first words: “Hot Dogs!” And Mickey can still be heard singing “Hot Dog” on Disney’s cable channels.
If the hot dogs described below hold your attention, it’s more than a happy coincidence. During the construction of Disneyland in the early 50s, Walt Disney would frequently grab a hot dog (a “weenie”) from his refrigerator at home as a snack. He noticed that Lady, the family dog, would follow him wherever he went as long as he was holding the weenie. Walt named the behavior at the Park after this observation. Sleeping Beauty Castle as well as other Park icons came to be called weenies, because they grab and hold the attention of Guests.
