For years, my family and I walked right past Kringla Bakeri og Kafe on our way to the main attraction in the Norway Pavilion, Maelstrom. Many of my friends had raved about the treats that were served at Kringla Bakeri and we decided to try them ourselves. Immediately upon entering the Kafe, we were greeted with smiles from the Cast Members. Upon their recommendation, we ordered a Troll Horn, School Bread and a Viking Coffee.
The School Bread is described as a sweet cardamom bun filled with vanilla creme custard and topped with glazed and toasted coconut.
I made a single cut through the middle so that I could take a picture of the custard filling. As you can see, there wasn’t much filling in the bread but what was there had a creamy texture and a great taste. My only complaint was that I wished it were served warm.
My husband’s choice was the Troll Horn which is described as cloudberry jam and whipped cream in a crispy pastry sugar-coated shell. The Troll Horn was as described, nice and crisp but filled with more cream than jam.
My husband, who drinks a pot of coffee every day, is a Folger’s Coffee kind of guy and hardly ever strays from his favorite brand. However, we all know that Folger’s isn’t served on Walt Disney World Resort property so he has to order what is available when on vacation. He said that the Viking coffee was better than most coffee found on property and was a good substitute for his usual brand.
I foresee another visit to Kringla Bakeri during our future trips as the pastries were a good use of a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan. We may opt for the sandwiches next trip as the ones on display in the case looked quite good and are considered a quick service credit.
There were many other items on the Kringla Bakeri og Kafe menus such as a Norwegian Club Sandwich, Salmon and Egg Sandwich, Rice Cream, Viking Chocolate Mousse as well an assortment of juices, wine and even Norwegian water.
DIStracted Tip: Kringla Bakeri og Kafe is a counter service restaurant and one counter service credit will be required when using the Disney Dining Plan. Some items on the menu are considered a snack credit. Simply look for the DP on the menu or ask a Cast Member.
