Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is known for its magical bakery team, and the spectacular pastry creations they make for the holidays. Our very own DIStracted author, Christen Francis., got a special treat as she visited the Grand Floridian, and was present when the bakery team rolled out their gorgeous giant Easter eggs.
Led by Executive Chef Erich Herbitschek, the bakery team created 27 intricately decorated eggs for the Fourth Annual Easter Egg Display. The team is given creative freedom. Cast Members submit ideas to Chef Erich for design approval, and then creating their own eggs.
Each Easter egg starts off as a giant hollow chocolate egg, and over a 3-week time period becomes one of the magnificent Easter eggs you see on display. The eggs are completely edible, as the chefs use products such as modeling chocolate, fondant, colored cocoa butter, sugar floral royal icing, and sculpted sugar art pieces. Each of these giant eggs weigh an incredible 9 to 12 pounds, and are 16 to 20 inches tall!
I highly recommend taking a break from the parks, and hopping over to the Grand Floridian to see this impressive display of Easter eggs!
DIStracted Tip: The Easter eggs are on display for a limited time. This year they will disappear on April 10th.
