On October 30, 2015, The Orlando Sentinel reported that former Walt Disney World President Meg Croft received a window honor on Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom. As the Orlando Sentinel said, receiving an honor such as this “is the Disney equivalent to a basketball player having his number retired” (excerpt from Orlando Sentinel article).
When my family and I took the Keys to the Kingdom Tour in June 2014, we were told that executives, Imagineers, and other creative Disney members, were honored in semi-hidden ways such as having their names on windows. Those can be found on Main Street at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., and in Disneyland Paris. There are fewer than 200 individuals honored this way at Walt Disney World, including folks such as Roy O. Disney, Richard Irvine, Ub Iwerks, Frank Wells and Lee Cockerell. Ms. Croft’s addition is the first to be added at Magic Kingdom since 2011.
Ms. Croft, who put in 35 years with the company before retiring, watched the unveiling as the park opened on October 14, 2015. The inscription reads “Center for Leadership Development & Mentoring” followed by an illustration of shaking hands and the name Meg Gilbert Crofton. Below that is a quote: “We start leaders on their journeys.”
DIStracted Tip: If you wish to see Meg Croft’s window while at the park, it is on the left side of the street as you walk toward Cinderella Castle. Find the wooden Indian statue in front of the Crystal Arts store on the right-hand side, then look across the street and up.
