I have to admit that I’m a Disney gift card junkie. I start buying them months before our trips, whenever I “find” money. How does one “find” money, you ask? I understand your confusion. “Finding” money is not easy. But sometimes I do so well with grocery store coupons and sale items that I save $25 or $50 during the weekly shopping. To me, that’s “found” money, because if not for the coupons I would have spent it on groceries anyway. Once I know the amount I’ve saved, I buy a Disney gift card in that amount and put it away to use on our next trip. I also shamelessly ask for Disney gift cards whenever anyone asks me what I would like for a gift. Every little bit helps!
Disney gift cards are fantastic. They can be used for food, drinks, and merchandise at Walt Disney World Resort (WDW), Disneyland Resort (Disneyland), and on Disney Cruise Line (DCL). If you have a magic band and are charging things to your room at WDW or if you’re charging things to your room at Disneyland via your Key to the Magic Card, you can go to the front desk at your hotel and use the Disney gift cards to pay down the balance. On DCL, you can go to Guest Services to pay down the room charge balance. The problem I ran into? At the end of each trip I wound up with a few gift cards, each with a small balance. Three dollars and eighty-seven cents on one. Twenty-four cents on another. Twelve dollars and three cents on yet another. It drove me crazy that there was unused “lost” money on the cards!
Enter DisneyGiftCard.com. That’s right, there is an entire website devoted to Disney gift cards. You can check the balance on each card. And the best part? YOU CAN COMBINE YOUR GIFT CARD BALANCES ONTO ONE CARD. Let that sink in for a minute. I combined all of my low-balance cards, and I “found” $117.46!
DIStracted Tip: When you first go to the DisneyGiftCard.com website, you’ll need to create an account. It is separate from all other Disney accounts, so the login and password that you use for other Disney sites will not work here.
Once you create an account, you can add a primary gift card by entering the gift card number and the security code found on the back. Once you’ve done that, you can add four additional cards, and then transfer their balances to the primary card. Once the balances are transferred, you can delete the four empty cards and add four more and repeat the process until you’re through.
DIStracted Tip: Each gift card can have a balance up to $1000, so keep that in mind when you’re combining them.
In addition to combining gift card balances, you can purchase gift cards at DisneyGiftCard.com. There is also a comprehensive list of participating locations throughout WDW, Disneyland, and DCL. You can even use a Disney gift card to pay for a PhotoPass order, Disney Music Group music on DisneyMusicStore.com, and merchandise on DisneyStore.com.
What are you going to use your Disney gift cards for on your next visit?
