There’s a new resort and indoor water park coming to Orlando! The Orlando Sentinel and Orlando Weekly both reported the news and I, myself, had a brief online chat with Jason P. of Great Wolf Lodge who confirmed that they have, indeed, bought land in the area. Although Jason couldn’t provide additional information, from the reports, the new Orlando location looks to be one of the largest Great Wolf Lodge properties!
According to county records, GWR Orlando Property Owner, a Great Wolf affiliate, bought approximately 50 acres of land from Garrison Orlando Land LLC. Orlando Sentinel stated, “Preliminary plans called for an 800-unit hotel, on 50 acres just across Interstate 4 from Disney Springs. Zoning on the property allows up to 1,400 hotel and timeshare units.”
Great Wolf Lodge resorts, usually rustic style log structures, are known for attractions like five-story water slides, wave pools, treehouses, restaurants, conference space, rope climbing, mini golf and more. At this time, there are fourteen Great Wolf Lodge Resorts scattered over the United States and each look amazing! Guests can experience water features such as the Hydro Plunge, Alberta Falls, Slap Tail Pond and Coyote Cannon. Kids can have fun with activities like Story Time and MagiQuest. Looking to be pampered during your stay? Great Wolf Lodge has spas for adults and kids!
“Your Great Wolf Lodge resort adventure begins in our massive, 84-degree indoor water park, packed with thrill rides, water slides and splashin’ fun for the little ones. When you’re ready to dry off, you’ll find attractions, games, activities and adventures along with plenty of family-friendly dining options, all under one roof!” (Excerpt from www.greatwolf.com)
I was curious as to whether or not those traveling to the Orlando area would be interested in visiting this new resort so I posed the following question to our Facebook Group, Magical DIStractions:
Have you heard that an affiliate of Great Wolf Resorts, a Wisconsin-based water park resort chain, has purchased about 50 acres near Walt Disney World for $23 million? I’d like to hear your thoughts and opinions on whether or not you’d be interested in visiting the resort if they do decide to build in the Orlando area. Would you venture from the major theme parks to the Great Wolf Lodge?
The following direct quotes are just a few of the many responses that I received.
Jennifer Y. gave us her thoughts: “I doubt I will visit the Orlando location. I will probably visit the new Great Wolf Lodge opening in Anaheim, but that’s only an hour from my house. When I fly all the way to Orlando it’s for experiences I can’t get anywhere else.”
Kristen M. was excited about the new resort: “We love disney (sic)……and we love GWL (sic). I would visit both!!!!”
Liza F., an international traveler, stated. “I’m international from northern ireland (sic) and we would def (sic) give it a try. We enjoy trying different things when we head to Orlando.”
Mary B., a Orlando resident, weighed in: “I live here in Orlando, and it will be a good addition to the tourist area. I think it will give people other options, and I believe that it will help to bring more people to the area (which hopefully will mean that they travel to Disney as well). Being local, I would definitely at least check it out!”
We’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions on the new and incredible sounding Great Wolf Lodge Resort that’s coming to the Orlando area. Please feel free to share them in our comments section below.
