It looks like the Walt Disney World Imagineers have been playing with Pixie Dust again – and I mean that literally! An old favorite and staple of the Magic Kingdom has recently received some tender loving care and magical upgrades to its queue. Peter Pan’s Flight, located in the Fantasyland portion of the Park, has been able to stretch its wings a bit since the installation of the Tangled restrooms, now located nearby. The building that houses the story of the Darling family and a sprightly young boy who never wants to grow up has been able to make use of the back portion of the building, where restrooms used to be, in order to create more room throughout the attraction for a more interactive queue.
As you begin your journey inside, the scene is set as you are greeted by numerous beautiful paintings that take you back to London, England, when Wendy, John and Michael were still children. Moving casually through the queue, you at some point find yourself in the courtyard of the Darlings’ home, glancing at the conversing silhouettes of Mr. and Mrs. Darling in the window. Keep an eye out for Nana! Her doghouse is somewhere along the route, as well. Further down the walk, you enter the nursery full of colorful toys, gadgets and games. It is said that this is where Tinker Bell may soon be found flying around the room, in and out of hiding places, playing with the children’s toys. Take a look for yourself in this Video by Disney Parks! Ultimately, this 3-D little fairy will make herself quite comfortable and fly right up to the Guests standing in line. I can already hear the giggles of little ones as Tink comes to life right before their eyes.
As if the above did not provide enough for the imagination to take in, Imagineers have also been playing around with shadow technology. This new form of entertainment will allow Guests’ shadows to be manipulated in order to interact with top hats and fluttering butterflies on the walls. My boys are going to have so much fun with this!
Walt Disney World Imagineers have been hard at work creating ways to immerse you the Guest in these famous stories even before climbing onto the ride itself. Joining the likes of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and The Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan’s Flight is sure to attract many eager to see what this new interactive technology has to offer. Just be sure that, as you “think of the happiest things,” you pay attention as you exit the attraction. It is rumored that Tinker Bell herself may sprinkle you with Pixie-Dust on your way out.
Are you ready to fly off to Neverland? What do you think about the new technology coming to the queue of Peter Pan’s Flight? We would love to hear your thoughts!
