Roy O. Disney, Walt’s older brother, was born 121 years ago today, on June 24, 1893. Roy was responsible for the completion of Walt’s dream of opening Disney World after Walt’s death in 1966. Roy spoke at the dedication ceremony of Disney World on October 25, 1971, only with the assistance of Mickey Mouse at his side.
Roy passed away two months later on December 20, 1971. Roy O. Disney made sure that Disney World, also known as “The Florida Project” was forever known as Walt Disney World.
A statue of Roy O. Disney and Minnie Mouse can be found in the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World in Town Square.
