Forty years ago today (January 15, 1975), Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World debuted the new attraction Space Mountain (sponsored by RCA).
The concept for Space Mountain was a descendant of the first Disney “mountain” attraction, the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland. The Matterhorn’s success convinced Walt Disney that thrilling rides had a place in his parks. The success of the ride prompted Imagineers to design a Space Mountain for Disneyland, Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disney.
Space Mountain blasts guests into the outer-galaxy past shooting stars and other-worldly celestial satellites. The twists and turns in a tumult of fun launch you into the inky blackness of the nether reaches of space!
Is Space Mountain one of your favorite attractions?
