I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people ask about making reservations for a Walt Disney World table-service restaurant and only ordering dessert or appetizers. For some reason many don’t think its possible or that it’s “right”, but why can’t you? You would do it at home, so why not at Disney?
This trip I knew there were a few restaurants I didn’t necessarily want to do a full meal at, but we still wanted to experience it. So, I made reservations and we ordered appetizers or desserts and drinks. No one frowned upon us and we weren’t kicked out! Not that I expected it to be an issue, but some seem to think that it would happen.
Our first app-only meal was lunch time at Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani. We ordered the Indian-style Bread Service which comes with your choice of bread and three (3) accompaniments for $11.49 (or you can pay $13.99 and get all 9!) We got all five (5) bread choices which includes Traditional Naan, Garlic-ginger Naan, Spiced Naan, Onion Kucha and Paneer Paratha. We also decided to try all nine (9) accompaniments which are Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, Cucumber Raita, Mango Chutney, Tomato-Date Jam, Tamarind Chutney, Coriander Chutney, Garlic Pickle, Red Chili Sambal, and Spicy Jalapeno-Lime Pickle.
Let me tell you the bread service is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! It was more than enough to fill us up. Shhh, here’s another little secret… A couple of nights later I was craving the bread service so my hubby ran downstairs (we were staying at Kidani), got it TO GO and brought it up to the room! I got to sit on my comfy bed and watch Stacy show me all the Must Dos while eating mouthwatering bread!
Later in the week, we stopped by Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater for dessert. The kids (ok, they are 17 yrs old and we were celebrating their soon to be high school graduation) ordered milk shakes and my husband and I split the Orbiting Oreos Adult Shake (Oreo shake with Godiva Chocolate Liqueur with a glow cube) and the Warm Glazed Doughnut with Cinnamon Apples topped with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and Caramel sauce.
Again, it was all delicious and we got to step back in time and enjoy some time at the “drive-in” watching hilarious old movie clips.
Lastly, we got soup at the new Jungle Navigation Co. LTD, Skipper Canteen for dinner one night. If you’ve read my review, you know how much I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. If you haven’t read it, jump on over and take a look. See if you can feel my love for this restaurant! I can’t say enough good things about it and the Ginger “Croc” Hot and Sour Soup is tangy, spicy and down right delectable. Seriously, my new obsession and I will figure out how to make it at home!
Not once did we get shamed for ordering just appetizers or desserts. Have you looked at the prices of dining at Walt Disney World Resort??? Come on, the bill for apps and drinks or dessert and drinks is almost as much as a full meal at home is!
So the moral of this story is to DO IT! If you aren’t feeling the menu, don’t want a full meal, or just want to experience table-service without paying “full” price go ahead and make an advance dining reservation and enjoy appetizers or dessert and don’t worry about it!
