When I heard there was a new restaurant opening in Downtown Disney called The BOATHOUSE, I was excited! As a girl living in South Mississippi, there is nothing I love more than eating at a beautiful restaurant on the water! The BOATHOUSE which opened in April, is situated on Village Lake. It is bright and airy inside and has lots of seating outside. There’s a beautiful bar that has live music and out off the deck are some really neat boats that you can walk around and look at, not to mention the Amphicars. Up to 3 people can get a 20 minute ride around Village Lake in one of these beauties for just over $100.
My husband and I chose to sit outside on the deck and enjoy the sunset. It was a fantastic location with a great view! Our server was very friendly and kept our drinks filled throughout the meal.
The menu is a good size with lots of seafood to choose from.
We started our meal out with some drinks, bread, and an appetizer. The bread was very good! Light and fluffy, served warm with the butter on the side.
I enjoyed a Bourbon and Coke with my meal, a standard drink that is always delicious.
For our appetizer we had the Andouille and Beer Steamed PEI Mussels. I have loved mussels since I was a kids and could eat them as just my meal. I was a bit disappointed in them. Part of the shells had no meat in them and there was very little Andouille. The flavor was ok, not bad but not exciting either. The garlic “croutons” served with them were fantastic! Lots of flavor and great for soaking up some of the broth.
I was so excited to see the Surf and Turf on the menu featuring a 32oz Tomahawk Steak! I have dreamed of having a Tomahawk! (for those of you unfamiliar, a Tomahawk Steak is a large version of a bone-in Frenched Rib Eye, named because of it’s resemblance to a tomahawk. The bone is left in not only for flavor but also for some dramatic presentation).
The Tomahawk came with a 1 1/4lb whole Lobster.
I was very happy to see the Lobster split in half, but disappointed to see the steak cut off the bone. The Lobster was good. Nothing fancy to it and I do wish it would’ve been served with a bit of butter for dipping. The steak was disappointing. Not only was it underdone but it was bland. I generally don’t add salt to anything and I had to add salt to it. I’m not a fan of steak sauce or BBQ sauce either so didn’t really care for the sauce served with this dish. My husband said it was ok, but not great.
We opted not to get dessert. This was a very expensive meal ($225 for these dishes, along with our two beverages) so I wish I would’ve been more “wow-ed” by it. I have heard a lot of good reviews about the crab cakes so I assume we should’ve gotten that instead. Unfortunately, with so many amazing places to eat on Walt Disney World property I doubt we will go back to The BOATHOUSE unless it’s just to sit on the deck and enjoy a few drinks.
DIStracted Tip: The BOATHOUSE accepts the Disney Dining Plan and uses two (2) Table Service credits.
