Last month, we reported that a new gourmet chocolate shop, ‘The Ganachery,’ would be opening its doors in Disney Springs later this year. Over the weekend, an official opening date of December 15, 2015 was announced.
In addition to the official opening date, new details about the one-of-a-kind chocolate boutique were also released. Guests can expect that The Ganachery will be less like your typical candy shop, and more of a chocolate experience. Disney Pastry Chef Stefan Riemer says “It has nothing to do with ‘candy.'” The Ganachery is about showcasing only handcrafted chocolate which Chef Riemer calls “the most beautiful product in the world.”
Guests will be welcomed into The Ganachery by a chocolatier, and as they step in to the old world, apothecary like shop, they will see an expert on stage mixing and creating the luxurious chocolate by hand. While the shop puts a sophisticated spin on the art of chocolate, the experience will not be intimidating. Guests are welcome to sample one of 16 different ganaches that are made on site. “Textures, tastes, colors–this is about relaxing and enjoying a bite-size indulgence,” says Chef Riemer.
Following the trend in the United States, the shop uses a 65 percent dark chocolate to create its delectable treats. Milk chocolate will also be carried in shop, so there is something for every chocolate lover. Chef Riemer shares that some flavors of the treats will be dark chocolate with shaved Egyptian salt and milk chocolate with a dash of dark chocolate and Sri Lankan cinnamon. The signature flavor will be dark chocolate with a hint of Florida orange, a true nod to the popular fruit of the Sunshine State. Nine different varieties of chocolate bars will also be carried in the shop that will add a little extra magic to the experience. Five of those bars will be of the “Fab Five” (Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, and Goofy). The Minnie bar sounds delicious! Milk chocolate with dried strawberries, which shows off her signature red dress and bow. In addition to the Fab Five bars, the other bars will include bars highlighting ingredients native to the locations of Disney Resorts around the globe. There will be a Disneyland Resort bar, a Disneyland Paris bar, and the one I can’t wait to try, the Aulani bar which is white chocolate with pineapple and coconut.
With the December 15th opening date being in the middle of the Holiday season, treats from The Ganachery would make a great gift idea for the chocolate lover on your shopping list! The shop wraps the chocolates in beautiful packages that are a work of art themselves. Specially for the season, Chef Riemer has created a baked mini-stollen. Stollen is the classic German fruit cake served during the Holidays. The Ganachery’s version of this treat is covered in marzipan and then draped in a dark chocolate blend.
I am looking forward to adding a trip to The Ganachery to my annual December visit to the Walt Disney World Resort! I can’t wait to try the signature chocolate with the hint of Florida orange and get my hands on an Aulani bar. Which of the flavors are you most excited about?
