Have you ever raced your way to your favorite attraction only to find it out of order? Or maybe had your mind set on a certain restaurant for lunch, only to arrive and find out it has a two hour wait? When you need suggestions for a quick change of plans while at the Walt Disney World Resort, Twitter is the place to turn! Yes, I said Twitter. Walt Disney World Resort has its very own official Twitter account – WDW Today. I’ve been following @WDWToday for quite some time, but never took advantage of this resource until my last visit to Walt Disney World this past weekend. @WDWToday lets you interact with the Walt Disney World Guest Services team at the touch of a finger! Whether you have a question, need advice, or just want to share a special moment from your Walt Disney World vacation, @WDWToday is there to help or celebrate with you!
I tested the service during our last trip, and here’s what I found:
It is VERY convenient! All you need is a smartphone and the Twitter app, and you can access @WDWToday from anywhere! I submitted my first tweet in the car on the way down to Walt Disney World Resort. As soon as you think of your question or comment, you can submit it; no waiting or wandering around to find an actual Cast Member to assist you. I received responses to all of my tweets within minutes. If you’re looking for a quick reply, this is the place to turn.
My daughter loves Marie from Aristocats. I know she used to appear for meet and greets in the France Pavilion at Epcot, but I didn’t see that on the My Disney Experience App. Instead of searching the app on my own, one quick tweet to @WDWToday, and I found out where Marie would be within minutes.
Viewing parades and firework displays from a good vantage point is a must for most Walt Disney World Resort Guests. It can be disappointing when your view is obstructed or you wait too long to scout out your spot along the parade route. There are only a few spots along the Festival of Fantasy parade route where the dragon that is Maleficent blows real fire. I asked @WDWToday where I could see the display of pyrotechnics, and I got a rather vague answer this time. The only thing I can figure is they don’t want to let that secret out and have those spots be extra crowded. I could have replied and asked more specifically, I guess, but since I didn’t get an exact answer the first time, I figured that Disney is trying to keep some of the magic a little more behind the scenes.
@WDWToday is not just there to answer your questions, but they also want to be there to share in the excitement of your trip. I saw many other Guests sharing pictures of their park experiences. I decided to share in that excitement and tweet a picture of my daughter and the futuristic car she created during her first ride on Test Track. I loved following along and feeling connected to other Guests while in the parks as well.
Throughout the day, there are also fun tweets in which Guests can take part, whether in the parks, or just wishing they were. The hashtag #WhereInWDW is like a Walt Disney World scavenger hunt where Guests try to figure out where the object in the picture is located. They also tweet out Disney trivia and ask Guests to submit their favorite rides, snacks, and memories. It is a great feed to follow in order to get excited about an upcoming trip, or to relieve those post-Disney blues after you return home from a vacation.
There are NO silly questions! Don’t be hesitant to ask WDW Today for any assistance. I asked my husband to help out with the research for this article, and use the twitter app himself. As you can see, the Guest Service Cast Members will reply to ANY inquiry with a happy disposition, no matter how silly the question may seem.
I definitely recommend following @WDWToday on Twitter. It is especially helpful when you need a quick answer to a question while in the parks, or when planning a Walt Disney World vacation. Even when you’re not at Walt Disney World, you can connect and share with other Disney fans, learn some Disney tips, tricks, and trivia, and experience the Disney magic from wherever you are!
