Happy New Year! Each new year we see many attractions closing for refurbishment in Walt Disney World as they gear up for Spring Break and Summer season. January 4, 2016 (tomorrow) starts the beginning of many refurbishments to come. Currently in the Magic Kingdom all attractions are up and running with the next scheduled refurbishment (Splash Mountain) to begin on January 10th. Tomorrow morning Disney’s Animal Kingdom will begin the refurbishments of Maharajah Jungle Trek and Kali River Rapids. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will begin the lengthy refurbishment of Pizza Planet in the morning. This refurbishment is scheduled to last for many months with a reopening date of “late 2016.” Everyone’s favorite Epcot attraction, Soarin’, will be shutting it’s doors this evening to begin a lengthy refurbishment (scheduled to reopen in Summer 2016). The Re-Imagination of the Maelstrom continues with the new attraction, Frozen Ever After, scheduled to open on April 30, 2016. Disney’s Blizzard Beach will reopen tomorrow while Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon will begin it’s annual refurbishment (closing until March 12, 2016). Planet Hollywood in Disney Springs will be closing on Wednesday, January 6th for a lengthy refurbishment (scheduled to reopen Summer 2016).
Several new resort refurbishments begin this week at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Buena Vista Palace. *The Walt Disney World® Resort Monorail System will undergo refurbishment that will impact the Express monorail beam, which runs between the Ticket & Transportation Center and the Magic Kingdom. Express beam shutdowns will occur between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Resort beam will continue to run during downtimes. Guests arriving at the Ticket & Transportation Center during downtimes will be directed to the ferry boats.
