A very special ceremony took place at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California on December 7th! Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger presided over the ceremony which dedicated the newly restored office of Walt Disney. The Walt Disney Archives went to great lengths to make sure that Walt’s office suite was an almost exact duplicate of the original. Small details, including original furnishings, Walt’s piano and some of Walt’s collections of miniatures are now on display for Guests to see in the Animation Building at Burbank’s Walt Disney Studios.
Hanging behind the couch is a map of Disneyland circa 1966 and it includes recent additions to the Park as well as some that had yet to be built such as the Haunted Mansion and New Orleans Square. Also on display is one of the first set of plans for Disneyworld (later renamed Walt Disney World) and Walt’s vision of EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow). Walt developed audio-animatronics and his inspiration, a robotic bird, can be found singing in the golden cage featured in the office suite.

Select pieces of the office have been available for Guests to see over the years at the One Man’s Dream attraction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and also inside the Main Street Opera House in the Disneyland Park. The new recreation of Walt’s office will be on permanent display in Burbank. On December 7th, Disney Parks Blog told its readers that, in 2016, the office will be featured on select D23 Member tours.
