There are many extra tours that you can take when you go to the Walt Disney World Resort. I recently wrote about my wonderful experience with Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. In the spring, my husband, 12 year-old son and I will be staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. We have signed up for the Wanyama Safari. The three of us have done this safari previously in spring 2013. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to do it again in spring 2015!
Wanyama Safari is a tour that is only available to guests staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. The safari takes place on the savannas of Animal Kingdom Lodge so park admission is not required. You do not go to Disney’s Animal Kingdom park for this tour.
Meeting Place
The tour begins at Jiko – the Cooking Place, a signature restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House. You will meet others signed up for the tour and begin the experience with enjoying a special tea blend in the restaurant while getting to know each other. Then everyone is brought to a special safari truck to visit the resort’s savannas. These savannah are completely separate from Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. The safari is about an hour and a half in length and cast members will provide you with many behind-the-scenes information and access.
Special Dinner at Jiko
The tour ends with an amazing family style African style meal at Jiko, specially designed for the tour participants. I know that we will truly enjoy our experience once again. Guests must be at least 8 years old and there is an additional charge for this experience. I’ll have more information about the tour once we go again, but in the meantime, here are a few photos from 2013!
