For me, it’s the same as asking “Why Disney”? My family has been very fortunate to visit Walt Disney World at least once a year (sometimes more) in the last few years. So when we began to think about it, Disney Vacation Club (DVC) made sense for us!
Disney Vacation Club is a vacation ownership program. You invest based on the number of vacation points that you want to receive each year. The annual allotment of points can be used to book vacations at many different DVC properties. You are not locked into the same place, at the same time, as most timeshares work. You can choose when and where to stay each time!
I’ve been so fortunate to stay at each of the current DVC resorts at Walt Disney World. I’m looking forward to the completion of the newest DVC villas at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. There are studios as well as one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas available. The number of points required to stay at a villa will vary according to the size and location of the villa as well as the time of the year. Spring Break, Christmas Break and summertime will cost more points than off-peak times of the year.
DVC also has properties at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort in Florida and Disney’s Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. You can also use your points to stay at Disney’s Grand Californian at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure Park. There is also Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu.

So why Disney Vacation Club? For my family, it makes sense. We know that we have a home at Walt Disney World waiting for us! Some ask, why do you go to Disney so often? Don’t you want to go somewhere else? My answer – we go to Disney because we love it! Yes, we go other places too, but Disney is home. Some people like to ski every year, or go hiking every year on vacation. My happy place is Disney!

I have always wanted to become a DVC member, however, I have never been able to convince my husband to spend the money! 🙁

It is an investment, so before moving forward, it makes sense to run all of the numbers! Or if you are not sure if it’s for you, there are sites that rent members’ DVC points to stay at one of the villas. For us, it works. Except for studios, the villas also have a washer/dryer in the unit, as well as a full kitchen. The amenities are very nice!
