To cover or not to cover this story was one of the biggest questions this past week… But when the story went national we figured that we owe it to our DIStracted readers to break our silence on this hot ticket topic!
The Walt Disney Company has been sending out surveys to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort annual passholders and past guests asking their opinions on tiered ticket costs. In the survey Disney is proposing that tickets would cost less to go during non peak days, while guests would pay a premium to go during peak times such as Christmas or New Years.
DIStracted Tip: The Walt Disney Co. sends out many surveys each year, and very few of the proposed changes actually happen. So, please don’t panic! Disney really does care about what their guests think, and usually take the answers to these surveys to heart.
The new rumored tiered system would be broken up into three (3) different tiers gold, silver, and bronze.
- Gold tickets would be valid any day of the year
- Silver tickets would be good for most days of the year, except holiday and peak weeks (Christmas, New Years, summer, ect.)
- Bronze tickets would only be good for non peak week-days
For Disneyland here is an example of pricing from the survey: one (1) day non park hopper admission prices for Disneyland would range from $115 for Gold tickets, $105 for Silver and $99 for Bronze tickets. (L.A. Times)
The Walt Disney World survey suggested a price of $125 for a one (1) day non park hopper admission to Magic Kingdom for peak times such as Christmas or during the summer months, and a price point of $115 for those visiting during regular season like January. (Orlando Sentinel)
In the survey for Walt Disney World , Disney references there are other types of businesses that do tiered pricing. Most common are airlines, hotels and even the movie theaters, but the real question is are Disney guests willing to pay more for “lower crowds” during peak times?
While none of this is official as of right now, we’d love to know your thoughts on the proposed tiered pricing!
