He’s still absolutely quackers at the age of 81. Donald Duck with his mischievious and tempermental personality is still a firm favorite with one and all after all these years.
Donald made his debut in 1934 in “The Wise Little Hen” but it was during his second appearance in “Orphan’s Benefit” that our little duck showed his temperamental comic side with Mickey Mouse. Donald was mainly seen with Mickey and Goofy and it wasnt until 1937 that he was given his own feature film in Don Donald. Donald has been in over 150 animated films – many of which have been recognized with Academy Awards.
Unlike other characters, many of the films featured his family. We where introduced to his love interest Daisy Duck and also his crazily mischievious nephews Huey, Luey and Dewey. Throughout the years we have been introduced to two sides of Donald – his short temper; and his positive outlook to life. We normally start off with a happy Donald then something goes wrong (you could mistake him for Goofy, something always goes wrong for Goofy), and then his temper begins to show. Although Donald does have an aggressive nature, people still seem to warm to the little duck and often feel sorry for the poor fellow.
Donald’s voice was done primarily by Clarence Nash from 1934 until Donald’s 50th Birthday in 1984. This would be the last time this legend would voice the temperamental little duck, although he did do Donald’s voice for commercials and other promos until his death in 1985. The voice is now done by Tony Anselmo who took over the role in 1985 after being trained by Clarence.
